Men's Golf Ready For Conference Championships

The UNT men's golf team heads to the Texas-Arkansas border for the Conference USA Championship coming off its best performance of the season at the El Macero Classic last week in California when it finished second after ending the first round in 12th place.

THE EVENT: Texarkana Country Club will play at 6,969 yards, and will be a par-72 course for the tournament. The four-day event begins Monday and runs through Thursday. Monday-Wednesday will feature three rounds of stroke play with tee times beginning at 8 a.m., and running through 9:52 a.m., from Holes 1 and 10 each day. The top four teams in stroke play will move on to the match play portion on Thursday, with semifinals contested in the morning and the final in the afternoon.

THE FIELD:Â The Mean Green are the third-seed in the tournament based on their Golfstat national ranking, coming in behind top-seed Middle Tennessee and second-seeded Charlotte. UNT will be paired with fourth-seeded Louisiana Tech for the opening round.

REPRESENTING UNT: Competing for the Mean Green will be Vicente Marzilio, Tucker Allen, Diego Prone, Cody Winkler and Alvaro Roldos. Lenny Bergsson will serve as the alternate, and can be subbed in for anyone after the opening round

INTERNATIONAL FLAVOR: The Mean Green feature eight international players this year. Lenny Bergsson (Iceland), Nikhil Gopal (South Africa), Zak Karkaletsos (Spain), Vicente Marzilio (Argentina), Diego Prone (Argentina), Simon Roessler (Chile), Alvaro Roldos (Spain) and Philippe Thorin (Ecuador) round out the international players.

CHAMPIONSHIP PEDIGREE:Â UNT will be competing in its final Conference USA Championship before making the move to The American on July 1. The Mean Green have won one team championship in C-USA (2015), when current assistant coach Cory Churchman was a member of the team and earned All-Tournament Team honors, and two individual C-USA titles, Juan (Sebastian) Munoz (2015) and Vicente Marzilio (2021). Marzilio won as a freshman when the team also made it to the match play final. Marzilio is the second-highest ranked individual in the field.
HOME SWEET HOME: The Mean Green golf programs are thrilled to have the new Bruzzy's UNT Golf Practice Facility, which is a $3 million on-campus facility that features state-of-the-art technology, such as TrackMan, swing catalysts, indoor hitting bays, a short-game area and a PuttView indoor putting green.
