
Softball Set for Conference Series at FAU

BOCA RATON, Fla. – UNT softball visits Florida Atlantic for its final road Conference USA series of the season at Joan Joyce Field. First pitch is scheduled for Friday at 5 p.m. CT on CUSA.tv.
North Texas (26-20, 11-7) enters as winners in five of its past six C-USA contests including a series victory over first place Charlotte. Five teams, including UNT and FAU (30-15, 12-6), open the weekend within 1.5 games of the top seed in the conference.
Conference USA awards the top two seeded teams a bye in the double-elimination portion of its postseason tournament. The C-USA Championship is scheduled for May 10-13 in Ruston, La.
Ashley Peters leads the league with a 5.81 strikeout-to-walk ratio and only 1.06 walks allowed per seven innings, both marks rank 24th in the nation. She touts a 10-8 record with a 1.85 ERA while leading the team with 106 innings pitched and 93 strikeouts.
Kailey Gamble paces the Mean Green with a .347 batting average, 27 runs, 39 RBI, 14 home runs and 27 walks. She is one long ball short for sole possession of third place on the UNT career home run list.
Over the conference slate, North Texas ranks second in the league with 26 stolen bases on 30 attempts. The Mean Green are led by Lexi Cobb with nine and Cierra Simon at six. The pair are tied for sixth on the UNT career stolen base list, both at 31.
The Mean Green lead the all-time series over the Owls 21-15 and hold a 6-2 mark in Boca Raton, dating back to 2012. North Texas has not lost a series to FAU since 2011.
