BOWLING GREEN, Fla. - The UNT men's golf team shot up the leaderboard on the final day for the Streamsong Invitational on Wednesday to finish in third place after starting the day in the seventh.
The Mean Green shot the best round of the day with a 13-under-par 279 to finish just one shot behind second-place Elon and six back of tournament champion Kennesaw State. They were led on Wednesday by senior Diego Prone, who shot a 6-under 67 to finish the three-day event at 10-under par in a tie for third place. Prone was followed closely by fellow senior Tucker Allen, who finished the event at 9-under and tied for sixth after a 5-under 68 on Wednesday. Prone and Allen both posted bogey-free rounds on Wednesday with six and five birdies, respectively.
Cody Winkler rounded out the team's top-15 finishers with a T12 showing at 6-under par after his 3-under 70 on Wednesday.
"I'm proud of the fight in this team," UNT head coach Luke Calcatera said. "For the second straight event, our guys have improved each round. Diego Prone and Tucker Allen both played bogey-free today. This team has the opportunity to win tournaments when we put it together. We have a big matchup in two weeks at The Blessings Collegiate, and we're excited for the opportunity."
