DALLAS - The UNT men's golf team wrapped up play on Tuesday at the Trinity Forest Invitational at Trinity Forest Golf Club and were once again led by freshman Alex Huang, who put a bow on his best collegiate finish with a final-round 68 to tie for runner-up honors and help the Mean Green move up four spots on the leaderboard on the final day.
Huang carded a 70-66-68 to tie for second - two shots behind the individual winner - at 12-under par and was joined by teammates Dawson Meek and Blake Keen under par on Tuesday, as the team moved up to finish tied for seventh with San Francisco at 11-under par for the tournament after a final round 280, which tied for the third-best team round of the day. Keen, also a freshman, shot a final-round 70 to finish the event at 2-under in a tie for 31st, and Meek shot a final-round 69 to finish at 2-over in a tie for 43rd.
"The guys continued to fight back throughout the tournament and we were able to get five out of six rounds from our freshmen under-par, which was huge," head coach Luke Calcatera said. "Dawson had a solid comeback and gave us a great 69 today. Alex had a great week and had a chance to win, which is awesome for his development. I was proud of the way the guys learned from round to round and got better each day. There's a lot to build on leading into our last event of the fall next week in Little Rock."
Huang finished the three-day event with 19 birdies, which was tied for the most in the field, and had a second-round 66 that was tied for the second-best round in the field.
UNT will wrap up the fall schedule on Oct. 14-15, at the Everett Buick GMC Classic at Chenal Country Club in Little Rock, Arkansas.Â
