Jason Burton begins his second season against Alcorn State at 6 p.m. CT.
DENTON, Texas – The UNT women's basketball team is set to open the 2024-25 regular season against Alcorn State Monday night at 6 p.m. CT inside The Super Pit.
The 2024 American Athletic Coach of the Year, Jason Burton, will begin his second season at the helm in Denton with senior forward Tommisha Lampkin leading the way for his team. Lampkin has been the recipient of recognition on the conference and national landscape during the preseason garnering accolades such as being named the AAC Preseason Co-Player of the Year and earning a spot on the Lisa Leslie Award Preseason Watchlist.
In addition to Lampkin, North Texas returns six players from last season's conference championship squad. Burton and his staff brought in six newcomers, including a solid group of four transfers led by junior guard, Kyla Deck, who spent her first two collegiate seasons at SFA.
While the 2023-24 team defied expectations, the Mean Green will not have the element of surprise against anyone this season as they were projected to finish second in the AAC Preseason Coaches Poll, which was the program's highest preseason ranking since 2006.
Fans are encouraged to arrive early Monday night as a banner ceremony will precede the opening tip. Two banners will be lifted into the rafters of The Super Pit for the 2024 AAC Championship team and its postseason appearance in the Women's Basketball Invitation Tournament.
