DENTON, Texas – The UNT women's basketball team looks to get back in the win column when it hosts SMU Thursday night inside The Super Pit as part of the Evan Moore Classic.
Tip-off between the metroplex rivals is set for 6 p.m. CT and will be streamed on ESPN+. The game can also be heard on the Varsity Network App with Zac Babb and Michelle Brooks on the call.
The Mean Green and Mustangs are the first of three games in as many days that will make up the Evan Moore Classic. SMU will be back in action Friday at 4 p.m. against Chicago State, while North Texas will return to the court Saturday at 3 p.m. against the Cougars.
UNT (7-3) is coming off a 63-58 loss at Santa Clara on Sunday in which the Mean Green struggled to find the bottom of the net. Tommisha Lampkin posted 25 points and eight rebounds on her way to earning her fourth weekly honor of the year being named to the AAC Honor Roll.
SMU (6-5, 0-1 ACC) enters Thursday's contest after defeating Texas Tech, 61-57, on Dec. 11. The Mustangs, who left the American for the ACC in July, lost their first conference game to Florida State on Dec. 8. Thursday's matchup will be the first time an ACC women's basketball team plays in The Super Pit.
The meeting will also be the 55th time the teams play in series history. North Texas swept SMU last season, winning in Moody Coliseum for the first time since 1989, and completing the sweep in a 78-65 victory at home. Despite SMU holding a 33-21 lead in the series, UNT has had the advantage in The Super Pit, which includes victories in the last four meetings between the teams in the arena.
