DENTON, Texas – UNT women's basketball fell 74-66 to metroplex rival SMU on Thursday night inside The Super Pit.
North Texas (7-4) took a 17-point deficit into halftime, being outshot by the Mustangs (7-5) 51.0 to 26.7 percent in the first half. The Mean Green never took the lead, but tied the game late at 59 with 4:42 remaining.
"Right now we have a pattern in our losses where we really don't come out early," head coach Jason Burton said. "You can look at all of our losses and it starts with a poor first quarter or poor first half where we don't come out and set the tone [or] play like we're capable of playing."
In the loss, Tommisha Lampkin scored a team-leading 21 points with 10 rebounds. The double-double was Lampkin's sixth of the season and 23rd of her career, tying her for fifth all-time in program history for the stat.
Kyla Deck followed Lampkin in points with 14, going 3-for-7 from 3-point range. Ereauna Hardaway finished with 11 points on the night.
UNT will look to bounce back on Saturday at 3 p.m. when it takes on Chicago State to round out the Evan Moore Classic at the Super PIt. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.
