2/19/2024 7:07:00 PM | Men's Golf
LAREDO, Texas - Senior Cody Winkler was the opening-round leader after firing a 7-under-par 65 and sits in second place after 36 holes on Monday at 11-under after his second-round 68 in the Border Olympics at Laredo Country Club.
The Mean Green are in second place entering Tuesday's final round at 15-under par - eight shots back of Illinois State - after a 10-under 278, led by Key Coker's 5-under 67 and Winkler's second-round 68. Winkler's first-round 65 was the lowest score for a Mean Green golfer since Diego Prone shot a 65 at the 2022 Louisiana Classics.
Winkler carded 13 birdies on the day with just a single bogey in each of the first two rounds, and his 36-hole total of 133 (11-under) ties for the lowest 36-hole score relative to par since at least 1994, with Thomas Rosenmueller (2015-16) and Neal Collins (1998-99). He is one shot back of Illinois State's Valentin Peugnet.
Coker and Tucker Allen joined Winkler under par after two rounds, as Coker is tied for 10th at 4-under and Allen is tied for 24th at 1-under heading to Tuesday's final round, which is set for a shotgun start at 8 a.m.
