Wagoner Spins Shutout in UNT Invite Finale

DENTON, Texas – McKenzie Wagoner registered her second complete game of the weekend with a 3-0 shutout of Stephen F. Austin on Sunday at Lovelace Stadium. The Mean Green opened the afternoon with a 5-2 against Texas Tech.
"[Wagoner] knows how to pitch," head coach Rodney DeLong said. "She's not overpowering with speed but she's got good stuff and she knows how to get it done. She can pitch against anybody and give us a chance."
Wagoner (W, 3-1) completed 7.0 innings with two strikeouts while she allowed zero runs on five hits and two walks. Over four appearances at the UNT Invite, she threw 21.0 innings with 12 strikeouts including a relief effort in the first game of the day.
Freshmen Madison Conley and Elizabeth Moffitt established career highs with two and three hits, respectively. Conley collected her first career home run in the win over the Lumberjacks (4-11) while Moffitt became the second UNT player with a three-hit game this season.
Mikayla Smith opened the scoring for UNT against the Red Raiders (12-3) with an RBI double in the second inning. Kailey Gamble tallied her sixth RBI of the season and 117th of her North Texas career with a double in the seventh.
Cierra Simon closed the UNT Invite with a five-game hitting streak after she collected extra bases in both contests. She struck for a double against Texas Tech and her fourth career triple versus SFA. Simon is tied with the eighth most career triples in UNT history.
The final session of the UNT Invite, which included three games, set a new Lovelace Stadium attendance record with 842 fans.
