Women’s Basketball Set to Host Memphis on Senior Night

The Mean Green can clinch at least a share of the conference title with a win
DENTON, Texas – The UNT women's basketball team (22-7, 12-5 AAC) will close out the regular season when it hosts Memphis (13-15, 9-8 AAC) Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. CT with the opportunity to win the program's first conference title since 1986.
The Mean Green set a program record for single season wins in their 63-54 victory over Rice Sunday. After trailing for the majority of the game, UNT outscored the Owls 21-10 in the fourth quarter to maintain control of its own destiny in a chase for the conference title. DesiRay Kernal recorded her fifth consecutive double double in a 22-point, 10-rebound performance.
Entering the final week of the season, UNT is tied atop the conference standings at 12-5 with Temple and Tulsa. Tulsa will tip off 30 minutes before UNT Tuesday night on the road at Tulane, while Temple will host Florida Atlantic Wednesday night. In the event of a three-way tie, UNT would be the No. 2 seed at the conference tournament with Tulsa claiming the top seed.
A win over the Tigers will clinch North Texas at least a share of the second conference title in program history. However, Memphis comes into Denton on a five-game win streak having knocked off UAB 82-61 it's last time out. The Tigers are led by Madison Griggs, who is sixth in the American in scoring at 16.5 points per game.
Tuesday's game will also serve as Senior Night for North Texas. Jaylen Mallard, Maddie Cleary, Dyani Robinson, DesiRay Kernal and Tommisha Lampkin will be honored prior to the game. Senior student manager Jordan Johnson and former practice player Evan Moore will also be recognized as part of the ceremony that will begin at 6:13 p.m. CT.
The game will be streamed on ESPN+ with Kyle Youmans and Brian Burton on the call. The game can also be heard on the Varsity Sports Network with Zac Babb and Michelle Brooks.
