The Mean Green win its third consecutive American Pitcher of the Week award
IRVING, Texas – UNT softball sophomore Mackenzie Childers was awarded as American Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week, the league announced on Monday. Senior Kailey Gamble was named to the league's Honor Roll list.
Childers recorded her second weekly conference award of her career after she captured the same award on March 18 along with an Honor Roll selection on Feb. 26. After Skylar Savage won the award on March 25, Childers helped the Mean Green collect its third consecutive pitcher of the week award.
For the second time in program history, UNT pitchers have won its conference's pitcher of the week award in three consecutive weeks. Monday's announcement marks the first three-peat since Hope Trautwein and Janie Worthington did so in 2021.
Childers tallied three wins over 18 innings pitched including back-to-back victories over South Florida on Friday and Saturday. She struck out 17 batters over three appearances while she allowed a .159 batting average and three earned runs.
The Little Rock, Ark., native currently ranks inside the top 10 in four career statistical categories including first at 8.28 strikeouts per seven innings pitched.
Gamble collected her first distinction from The American with her placement on the conference's five-player, weekly Honor Roll. She tallied a team-high mark of five RBI including a two-run double in the eighth inning of Saturday's win over South Florida.
The Mean Green welcome No. 8 Oklahoma State to Lovelace Stadium on Wednesday at 6 p.m. Tickets are sold out for the event but ESPN+ will have live coverage.
