
Softball Set for Pair of Midweek Opponents

DENTON, Texas – UNT softball is amid a stretch in which it will play six games in six days after a series win over RV Florida Atlantic on Sunday. The Mean Green face Texas A&M-Commerce for a road doubleheader on Tuesday beginning at 5 p.m. from John Cain Family Softball Complex before hosting No. 11 Texas A&M at 6 p.m. on Wednesday at Lovelace Stadium.
All three games will be streamed on ESPN+.
North Texas (23-18) toppled the first-place team in the American Athletic Conference with wins on Friday and Sunday. RHP McKenzie Wagoner earned both victories and allowed one run on eight hits and zero walks over 13 innings pitched. She earned a spot on The American five-player Honor Roll.
Senior infielder Morgan Medford also garnered placement on the weekly Honor Roll after she reached base in eight of 12 plate appearances and tallied one RBI, one run scored and added her first stolen base at UNT on Sunday.
Texas A&M-Commerce (7-39) enters Tuesday on a six-game losing streak after it opened the season 4-1. The Lions made an appearance at Lovelace Stadium during day one of the 2024 Tracy Beard College Classic, notably falling to then-No. 14 Missouri 1-0 on Feb. 16 in a rare double no-hitter.
UNT leads the series 2-0 after it defeated A&M-Commerce in a doubleheader at Lovelace Stadium on March 14, 2023. Over two games, the Mean Green outscored the Lions 12-3 and collected 24 total bases to eight by A&M-Commerce.
No. 11 Texas A&M (32-9) currently sit third in the SEC and finish its conference at No. 12 Alabama on Monday at 6 p.m. The Aggies have won four of its past six games ahead of the finale against the Crimson Tide and moved into 7th on the Softball America national poll on Monday.
On March 6, the Mean Green dropped its first game of the season series 12-0 in five innings versus the Aggies in College Station. UNT head coach Rodney DeLong's first win over a ranked opponent came at Texas A&M on Feb. 9, 2019. Before his arrival, North Texas had failed to defeat a ranked opponent since Feb. 2017.
Wednesday night's game against Texas A&M at Lovelace Stadium is sold out but will be streamed on ESPN+ with a 6 p.m. scheduled first pitch.
