Allen Leads After Round 1 at AAC Championship

BELLEAIR, Fla. - The UNT men's golf team opened up play at the American Athletic Conference Championship on Friday at Pelican Golf Club, and senior Tucker Allen put together a red-hot back-nine to shoot a 4-under 66, which was good for a tie for first place after the opening round.

Allen birdied five holes on the back-nine after an even-par front and ended the day tied with Charlotte's Conor Gough, while leading the Mean Green on the day to a 6-over 286, which put them in a tie for eighth on the tightly packed leaderboard. Fellow senior Cody Winkler is tied for 15th after Day 1 after his even-par 70 after an eventful front-nine that saw him bogey the third and fourth holes before three straight birdies.

UNT will be paired for Saturday's second round with East Carolina, who is tied with the Mean Green, and seventh-place Rice, who is one shot up. They will tee off from the 10th hole beginning at 8:05 a.m., through 8:57 a.m., which is when Allen will tee off.
