BELLEAIR, Fla. - UNT senior Tucker Allen continued his run on Saturday in Round 2 of the American Athletic Conference Championship and remained tied atop the leaderboard with one round remaining after firing a 1-under 69 to enter Sunday's final round at 5-under in a tie for the lead with South Florida's Jake Peacock.
Allen entered the day tied for first at 4-under but fell back a couple of shots after three bogeys on the front-nine. Then, Allen birdied his 14th hole of the day and on the next hole holed out in two on the par-4 sixth hole for an eagle to make up three shots in two holes. He bogeyed the next hole but then birdied his final hole of the day to remain tied for first heading to Sunday's final round.
As a team, UNT put together a nice day as well, shooting a 2-under 278 to move up four spots on the leaderboard and enter Sunday in a tie for fourth place with Wichita State at 4-over par. UNT is nine shots back of third-place Memphis and 12 back of No. 42 SMU and No. 48 South Florida, who are tied for first at 8-under par.
The Mean Green got a welcomed round from senior Diego Prone, who subbed in for Harry Lord prior to the second round and shot an even-par 70. That score was matched by sophomore Alvaro Roldos, who carded a 70 even though he had a triple-bogey on his 10th hole of the day (Hole 1), and senior Cody Winkler shot a 1-under 69 to match Allen and end the day in a tie for 12th place at 1-under par, meaning the Mean Green's counting scores were all at par or better for the day.
UNT will be paired for Sunday's final round with Wichita State and FAU. They will tee off from the first hole beginning at 7Â a.m., through 7:52 a.m., which is when Allen will tee off. A win for Allen would mark the first individual conference championship for UNT since Vicente Marzilio's Conference USA title in 2021.
The final round will be broadcast live on ESPN+, beginning at 8 a.m. Fans can follow the event live on Golfstat and can follow the program throughout the season on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.
