DENTON — The American Athletic Conference's first place UNT soccer team hosts Temple Thursday night at the Mean Green Soccer Stadium.
First kick is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT and the match will be broadcast on ESPN+.
The Mean Green (6-2-2, 2-0-0) head into Thursday's match as the AAC's only 2-0-0 team. North Texas opened conference with a 1-0 home victory over Florida Atlantic and last week defeated Tulsa on the road, 3-1.
Temple (2-8-0, 0-1-0) heads to Denton aiming for its first league win. They fell 2-1 at home in their conference opener against East Carolina on Sept. 12. The Owls this season are under the direction of new head coach Chris Shaw who previously served as the head coach at Robert Morris, UNLV, Barton and Mount Olive.
Thursday will be the first time these two programs have ever met. They did not play one another last season. While UNT has never played Temple, this will not be the first time UNT head coach John Hedlund has faced Chris Shaw. The Mean Green defeated UNLV in Las Vegas, 1-0, in 2015 when Shaw was the head coach of the Rebels.
Hedlund enters Thursday's contest with 399 career victories. When he reaches the 400-win mark, he will become just the 20th coach ever to do so and just the sixth to do so at one university.
Hedlund founded the UNT women's soccer program in 1995 and has been its only head coach. He has led the Mean Green to 16 conference championships and zero losing seasons.
After Thursday's match, the Mean Green hit the road for East Carolina. The Mean Green and Pirates will face off on Sunday in Greenville, North Carolina. The two teams played to a 2-2 draw last season in Denton.
