WICHITA, Kansas — The UNT men's basketball team won its sixth straight game with a 58-54 road win over Wichita State Wednesday night.
Senior Moulaye Sissoko finished with a team-high 16 points, one shy of his single game career best. Atin Wright was not far behind Sissoko as he poured in 15 points and matched his season high with six rebounds.
North Texas (16-4, 7-1) on Wednesday outrebounded the Shockers (11-10, 1-7) 38-28. The Mean Green grabbed 13 offensive rebounds on the night.
"One of my favorite wins of the year," said head coach Ross Hodge. "A really tough gritty performance by them. We have a ton of respect for their team and staff. They came with a great game plan plus the crowd made it tough too but our guys really stayed together to get this gritty road win."
UNT pulled ahead early and led by six at the half but the Shockers punched the Mean Green in the first four minutes of the second half. WSU scored 13 points in the first four minutes of the second half and took its first lead of the game during that time. After a timeout by the Mean Green the UNT defense held the Shockers to just 17 total points from there on out.
A 3-pointer by Wright with 5:24 remaining gave UNT a lead for good as they are now 73-7 since 2020 when holding opponents to under 60 points.
The Mean Green take their six-game winning streak back to the Super Pit next as they host UTSA Saturday at 5 p.m. CT.
