DALLAS – The UNT men's golf team capped off the Trinity Forest Invitational with its best round of the tournament Tuesday, totaling a 4-under 284 on the day to finish eighth with a score of 861 for the event.
Sophomore Alex Huang added to his impressive resume at the Trinity Forest Invitational as he led North Texas with a 10th-place finish after rounds of 69-68-71. In two appearances at the tournament, Huang has shot 20-under par, posted four rounds in the 60s and collected a pair of top-10 finishes. After tallying four birdies during the first half of his round Tuesday, Huang jumped as high as fourth place on the individual leaderboard, but could not catch Houston's Hudson Weibel and Rice's Lukas Boandl who took medalist honors at 15-under par.
"Alex had another great week at Trinity Forest," head coach Luke Calcatera said. "He had a tough week last tournament, but really put in the week before this event and it showed. He's been working hard and this week it was nice to see it start paying off for him. There's lots of good for him to take from this event and build on and finish the fall strong next week in Little Rock."
The Mean Green were able to put together a solid round with the help of Noah Blaickner and Kalle Svederman who both finished the day under par alongside Huang. Despite a pair of double bogeys, Blaickner fired a round of 70 with six birdies, including back-to-back birdies on his final two holes. Svederman posted a 71 on Tuesday, matching his best of the tournament to place 25th at 214 strokes (-2).
Blake Keen tallied his second-best round of the season coming in with an even 72 to finish at 5-over par. Freshman Rayhan Latief played as an individual and placed 46th at 4-over on the tournament, while classmate Mitchell Maier tied for 73rd.
North Texas will head to Little Rock for the Everett Buick GMC Classic Oct. 13-14 for its final tournament of the fall.
