DENTON — The UNT men's basketball team, sitting in a tie for second place in the league standings, hosts Tulsa Wednesday night at the Super Pit.
The Mean Green (18-6, 9-3), who have had a week off since defeating Rice 67-61 in Houston, host the Golden Hurricane (11-15, 5-8) at 7 p.m. CT. The game will be broadcast on the Mean Green Sports Network, presented by Learfield and on ESPN+.
Both North Texas and Tulsa each enter Wednesday's contest riding two-game winning streaks. Prior to defeating the Owls in Houston last Tuesday, UNT beat Tulane on Feb. 8 at home, 76-66. The Golden Hurricane defeated UTSA at home on Saturday, 80-76, and knocked off Temple on the road last Wednesday, 80-74.
Wednesday the Mean Green will be aiming for their 19th overall win on the season and 10th league victory. Each would match last season's totals with still five regular season games to be played after Wednesday.
This will be the first and only regular season matchup this year between North Texas and Tulsa. They only met once last year as well, and the Mean Green won 68-55 on the road. Wednesday will be the first time these two teams have met in Denton since March 6, 2014. Tulsa leads the all-time series history 38-15. The first game between these two programs was played back in 1922.
Tulsa is led by third-year head coach Eric Konkol who was the head coach at Louisiana Tech from 2015-22. UNT is 9-8 all-time versus Konkol-led teams.
North Texas and UAB are in a tie for second place in the American Athletic Conference standings, a game behind league leader Memphis who as of Wednesday has the tiebreaker over both teams. The Blazers are at Rice Wednesday night while the Tigers have their week off before hosting Florida Atlantic on Sunday.
After Wednesday's game the Mean Green head to Florida for a pair of road games. UNT will face South Florida in Tampa on Sunday and then they are at Florida Atlantic on Thursday in Boca Raton, Florida.
