PHILADELPHIA — Riding a season high seven-game winning streak, the UNT men's basketball team travels to Temple Sunday afternoon for its regular season finale before it begins the 2025 American Athletic Conference Tournament next week.
The Mean Green (23-6, 14-3) and Owls (16-14, 8-9) are scheduled to tip-off at 1 p.m. CT from the Licouras Center in Philadelphia. The game will be broadcast on the Mean Green Sports Network, presented by Learfield and on ESPN+.
A win Sunday over Temple for North Texas will mean they finish second in the 2025 AAC standings and will earn the No. 2 seed in the league tournament. UNT will open the AAC Tournament on Friday in quarterfinal round from Dickies Arena in Fort Worth.
A victory will also give them 15 league wins this season, five more than they had last year and a mark the Mean Green have only reached twice before in program history. UNT enters Sunday's contest with 23 wins on the year, it's already the fourth-most single season wins in program history and just one win shy of moving into the top three in UNT history.
North Texas defeated Temple in Denton on Jan. 22, 76-67. UNT forward Brenen Lorient scored a career-high 20 points, had a career high 13 rebounds and had a career-high five blocks in the win. UNT's defense held the Owls' all-league guard Jamal Mashburn Jr. to 5-of-23 shooting, it's the most misses Mashburn Jr. has had in a game in his entire career.
UNT is 2-0 all-time versus the Owls, however, Sunday will be the first time these two teams have met in Philadelphia.
North Texas is coming off a 75-64 home win over Charlotte on Thursday. The Mean Green closed out the regular season with a 15-1 home record, tied for its most single season wins in the Super Pit. UNT got a historic performance from senior guard Atin Wright who scored 42 points and made eight 3-pointers in the 11-point win over the 49ers.
Wright was held to nine points in their victory over Temple on Jan. 22.
