4/22/2025 2:08:00 PM | Men's Golf
SARASOTA, Fla. - Freshman Alex Huang followed the lead of fellow freshman Blake Keen on Tuesday by firing a 4-under 68 in the second round of the American Athletic Conference Championship at the Ritz-Carlton Members Club after Keen's opening-round 67 on Monday.
The big round for Huang sends him to Wednesday's final round in a tie for 10th place at 5-under par, which puts him one shot behind Keen, who shot a 1-under 71 on Tuesday to go to Wednesday's final round at 6-under in a tie for eighth place. The pair is chasing South Florida's Wilhelm Ryding, who leads the tournament at 10-under.
UNT went 5-under on the day, which was two shots better than its round on Monday, thanks to an even performance throughout the lineup, as Rafael Estrada, James Tureskis and Dylan Allen, who subbed in for the second round, all shot even-par 72s.
Huang was 4-under through eight holes on Tuesday before a bogey on nine was matched with a birdie at 11 to break up a back-nine full of par golf.
UNT is tied with UTSA at 8-under par in fifth place going to Wednesday's final round, one shot back of fourth-place FAU and three back of third-place Memphis.
The Mean Green will be paired with FAU and UTSA for the final round with tee times beginning at 7:30 a.m., as both Huang and Keen will be looking to finish in at least the top seven to assure themselves a spot on the all-conference team, which will be released next week.
