Marks the first conference player of the week selection of the season for UNT
IRVING, Texas – Senior Kailyn Bearpaw was honored as the American Athletic Conference Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday.
Bearpaw led the Mean Green to a four-win week, including a conference sweep over UTSA, as she finished 7-for-11 for a .636 batting average with seven RBI, four runs scored and three extra-base hits. She hit a two-run home run in the series finale against the Roadrunners for her team leading eighth of the season.
In the game two of Sunday's doubleheader, Bearpaw tied her single-game season high of four RBI as she also leads the team with 36 runs batted in for the season. In conference play, she leads The American 22 RBI and ranks fourth with five home runs.
The award marks the first AAC player or pitcher of the week honor of the season for any North Texas player and the first of Bearpaw's four-year career in the league after she played at Tulsa from 2022-24. Bearpaw was named to the 2022 American Athletic Conference All-Rookie Team and 2023 All-Tournament Team as a member of the Golden Hurricane.
She became the 28th conference player of the week selection in program history and first since Cierra Simon accomplished the feat in The American on April 22, 2024.
The Mean Green look to extend its six-game winning streak Tuesday at Tarleton State with first pitch set for 6 p.m. from Tarleton Softball Complex.
