Softball Streak Snapped at Tarleton State

STEPHENVILLE, Texas – Mean Green softball lost 6-3 at Tarleton State Tuesday night to snap its six-game winning streak.
UNT (28-13) faced an early six-run deficit after the Texans (24-15) plated two in the first inning and an additional four runs in the third. The Mean Green had opportunities to even the score as it stranded nine runners on base, including seven in scoring position.
Anneca Anderson (ND) held Tarleton hitless over the final 3 1/3 innings after she entered the circle down 6-0 with two outs in the third inning. She tallied four strikeouts and allowed only one base runner on a fielding error in the sixth inning.
Anderson followed starting pitcher Skylar Savage (L, 12-6) who recorded one out in the first allowed three walks before Kayleigh Smith posted 2 1/3 innings with one strikeout, allowing four runs.
Cierra Simon finished 2-for-4, including a fifth-inning triple, and scored a run on a sacrifice fly by Elizabeth Moffitt. Simon is now tied for 11th place among active career leaders in NCAA Division I with 12 triples.
In the fourth inning, Madison Conley and reigning American Athletic Conference Player of the Week Kailyn Bearpaw scored from second and third base, respectively, on an errant throw to first base to retire Ausha Moore.
In addition to reaching on an error, Moore collected two walks and is now tied for fifth among Division I freshmen with 27 walks on the season and is tied for third overall in The American. She currently stands as the leader in program history for walks by a freshman and ranks eighth on the single-season leaderboard for UNT.
