Trio each honored with first all-region selection of their careers
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Elizabeth Moffitt, Skylar Savage and Cierra Simon were named to National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Region teams on Thursday. Three selections marked a new UNT softball program record as Moffitt and Simon garnered second team honors while Savage collected a spot on the third team.
Within the Central Region, the Mean Green led all non-power conference programs with three selections trailed by New Mexico State and Tarleton State at two apiece. Stephen F. Austin, Texas State, UIW and fellow American Athletic Conference member Wichita State each tallied one selection. The group was led by a trio of NCAA Regional hosts as Arkansas had eight honorees followed by Texas A&M at seven and Texas at six.
All three players earned their first regional honors of their respective careers as Moffitt and Simon joined Lacy Gregory (2019) and Tuesday DerMargosian (2021) as second-team selections while Savage became the fourth UNT player to collect third-team honors in program history and first since Kailey Gamble in 2023.
Simon recorded her second postseason honor of the season as she was named first team all-conference on May 6. She ends her Mean Green career as the program leader in runs scored (134), triples (12) and stolen bases (69) while she holds top 10 marks in batting average, games played, hits, RBI, total bases, sacrifice flies, defensive assists and double plays turned.
Moffitt enjoyed a breakout sophomore campaign as she set career-best marks in 16 statistical categories including runs scored, hits, RBI and home runs while she caught 14 runners stealing, the most by a UNT catcher since 2016. Additionally, she was named to the 2025 American Athletic Conference All-Tournament Team after she hit a two-run home run in the title game.
Savage added the all-region selection to her impressive career resume which includes two all-conference honors, two American Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week awards and a 2025 AAC All-Tournament Team trophy. Among pitchers in The American this season, she recorded top 10 marks in ERA, wins, complete games, saves, innings pitched and strikeouts while she was the league leader with 53 defensive assists and seven putouts.
North Texas closed its season with 36 wins, its third-best total in program history, and first American Conference Championship finals appearance on Saturday.
