DENTON, Texas — The UNT men's golf team will open the 2025-26 season Sunday at the Argent Financial Classic, hosted by Louisiana Tech in Choudrant, La., at Squire Creek Country Club.
The Mean Green will be making their 11th appearance at the tournament, having won the event twice back in 2013 and 2014.
Sunday will mark the start of head coach Luke Calcatera's third season at the helm. His team returns five players from last year's squad, while adding two experienced transfers from Central Arkansas and a pair of talented true freshman.
"We're excited to get our season started," Calcatera said. "I've been impressed with how the group has come together in a short amount of time. Our qualifying rounds have been really competitive, and we have a lot of guys coming off a year of experience or who are older and mature, so I'm looking forward to seeing how they play."
The Argent Financial Classic will host a field of regionally located teams, including American Conference foes, Memphis, Rice, UAB and UTSA. Teams will begin play Sunday morning with UNT's first golfer scheduled to tee off at 10:30 a.m. CT. They will play 18 holes each day with the final round of the 54-hole event taking place on Tuesday.
The Mean Green's lineup for the season opener features sophomores Alex Huang and Blake Keen, junior Joe Stover, UCA transfer Noah Blaickner and true freshman Mitchell Maier, who will be making his collegiate debut. Kalle Svederman, another senior transfer from UCA, will play as an individual in his North Texas debut.
Live scoring will be available throughout the tournament on Clippd.
