DENTON, Texas – The UNT women's basketball team squares off against Tulsa Friday afternoon at the Super Pit in a pivotal American Conference matchup.
The Mean Green (11-8, 5-2 American) have won four of its past five games, including a 72-59 victory at UAB earlier this week. Cherie Spencer highlighted the win over the Blazers, setting new career highs in points (16), assists (4), steals (5) and field goals made (7). With that performance, she became the first UNT freshman since at least the 1981-82 season to record 16 points, four assists and five steals in a single game.
Aysia Proctor also tallied 13 points against UAB, extending her streak of double-digit scoring games to seven. She enters Friday as the American's leading scorer in conference play (18.0 PPG) and is its only player averaging 13+ points while shooting better than 41% from deep on the season. Megan Nestor forms a dangerous duo alongside Proctor, dominating the paint with 12.5 points and 12.5 rebounds per game. Her mark of 4.9 offensive rebounds per game currently leads the nation, while her total rebound average ranks second in the NCAA.
North Texas and Tulsa played two tightly contested contests last season, both of which ultimately went UNT's way by a total of seven points. The Golden Hurricane bring a 12-6 record to the Super Pit and possess the conference's highest-scoring duo in Mady Cartwright and Hannah Riddick at 30.3 combined points per game.
The game is slated for a 2:30 p.m. tip-off and will be available for streaming on ESPN+ with Kyle Youmans and Brian Burton on the call. Sam Kaman will also provide radio coverage through the Varsity Network App.
