DENTON, Texas – The UNT women's basketball team hosts Tulane Saturday afternoon at the Super Pit in the first of back-to-back home games.
North Texas (13-11, 7-5 American) is coming off an intense two-game road trip that saw both contests decided on the final possession and a season-high 13-point comeback last Saturday against Temple. It also nearly took down league-leading Rice two days later but ultimately dropped a back-and-forth battle, 70-68. The Mean Green now return home to the Super Pit, where they have won 14 of their past 16 games against American Conference opponents.
One of the sport's most dominant inside forces, Megan Nestor tallied 14 points and 15 rebounds against Rice to give her 10 double doubles in her last 11 games. She currently leads the nation in nearly every major rebounding category and needs just 34 more to break the program's all-time single season record of 364, set by Sharon Shelton in 1977-78.
Meanwhile, head coach Jason Burton continues to soar up the UNT record books as well. A victory on Saturday would give him 62 as head coach at North Texas, just four shy of tying Judy Nelson for third-most in program history.
North Texas trails the all-time series to Tulane, 6-3, but has won two straight games and three of four meetings since joining the American Conference. The past five contests in the series have been decided by an average margin of 4.4 points dating back to 2014. More recently, UNT secured a victory at Tulane for the first time ever back on Jan. 10 by a score of 59-53. Nestor had another double double in that game while Chania Price scored a career-high 15 points.
The game is slated for a 2:00 p.m. tip-off and will be available for streaming on ESPN+ with Kyle Youmans and Brian Burton on the call. Sam Kaman will also provide radio coverage through the Varsity Network App.
