DENTON, Texas – The UNT women's basketball team meets South Florida Saturday afternoon at the Super Pit in its final home game of the regular season.
North Texas (17-11, 11-5 American) has been rolling lately with wins in four straight games and six of its last seven. That stretch sets up a crucial matchup Saturday, as the third-place Mean Green sit just half a game ahead of South Florida in the American Conference standings. Conversely, UNT is just one game behind second-place East Carolina, who it owns the head-to-head tiebreaker against.
Last time out, UNT put together perhaps its best performance of the season when it crushed in-state rival UTSA, 87-63. The Mean Green led for over 35 minutes of game time and built a lead as high as 38 in the fourth quarter before eventually scoring 80+ points for the third consecutive game. Andi Schissler was pivotal in that effort, tallying a career-high 22 points on 6-of-11 shooting from behind the arc. She is averaging 17.3 PPG over the last four games and has made 28 of her last 54 three-point attempts.
Megan Nestor continues to be a dominant force down low, averaging 12.7 points and 14.1 rebounds per game. She leads the nation in nearly every rebounding category, while her 17 double doubles lead the American and rank top 10 in the NCAA.
Nestor, Jazzy Owens-Barnett, Tionna Lidge, Adhel Tac, Jaelyn Talley and student manager Sy'Karis Cook will all be recognized prior to the game for Senior Day. The ceremony is scheduled to begin at approximately 1:40 p.m. The game will then tip off 20 minutes later at 2:00 p.m. and will be available for streaming on ESPN+ with Kyle Youmans and Brian Burton on the call. Sam Kaman also returns to provide radio coverage through the Varsity Network App.
