LAKE CHARLES, La. – UNT softball opens its first season under head coach Cody White on Friday at the Twisted Vines Bayou Bash on the campus of McNeese State University. The Mean Green face No. 2 Texas Tech at 11 a.m. before meeting hosts McNeese at 4 p.m. on ESPN+ at Cowgirl Diamond.
On Saturday, UNT will travel to the 40th Annual Louisiana Classic in Lafayette, La., for games against Jax State at 1 p.m. and the hosting Ragin' Cajuns at 3:30 p.m. The team closes the weekend Sunday at 1 p.m. in Lake Charles versus ULM.
White did not shy away from the challenge of opening the season against tough competition as the Red Raiders finished as national runners-up last season while McNeese and Louisiana have made the NCAA Tournament nine times and 33 times, respectively.
"We wanted to schedule tough," White said, "I think that helps you in conference play, and what we want to do is make the postseason. If you're playing [quality] teams out of the gate, it prepares you and either you know where you're at or know where you need to be."
The Mean Green return 10 letter winners, including NFCA All-Region honoree Elizabeth Moffitt at catcher and unanimous all-conference selection Madison Conley along with starters Anneca Anderson (P/UT), Riley McNemar (IF) and Taylor Platt (OF). Moffitt leads all returners with 42 runs scored and 52 hits while Conley paced UNT with 10 home runs and 95 total bases.
North Texas finished the 2025 season with 36 wins, third-most in program history, and advanced to the finals of the American Conference Championship where it fell, 5-4, against tournament hosts South Florida.
