Softball Takes Game One at UAB, Plans for Saturday Doubleheader

North Texas records first road win at UAB since 2022
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Mean Green softball opened American Conference play with a 5-2 win over UAB on Friday afternoon at Mary Bowers Field.
The road win marks the first for UNT (11-13, 1-0) against the Blazers (11-11, 0-1) since April 29, 2022, and the first victory for either away team in the series since April 1, 2023.
Elizabeth Moffitt tallied the first run of the game in the first inning with an RBI double to score Ariah Mitchell. Moffitt's double extended her career-best hitting streak to 10 games while she has reached base safely in the past 14.
In the third, Madison Conley hit a two-run home run to give the Mean Green a 3-0 lead and extended her hitting streak to 10 games which ties her career-best mark. The home run was her sixth of the season and 18th of her career.
Starting pitcher Britney Lewinski (W, 6-6) held the Blazers scoreless on two hits through the opening three innings before the hosts plated two runs in the fourth. In the fifth, Lewinski gave way to Anneca Anderson (S, 1) who locked down UAB for three scoreless innings with no hits, one walk and one hit-by-pitch for her first save of the season and second of her career.
North Texas added two insurance runs in the sixth as Blayze McNemar drove in Kaycee Slovak before Riley McNemar scored on a fielding error for a 5-2 lead.
In the seventh, Anderson walked the leadoff batter before a flyout and 4-6-3 double play capped the league win over the Blazers.
The Mean Green are scheduled to finish the series with a Saturday doubleheader against UAB beginning at 11:30 a.m. Both games will be streamed on ESPN+ from Mary Bowers Field.
