Softball Suffers Walk-Off Loss

TAMPA, Fla. – UNT softball suffered a 2-1 loss against South Florida at USF Softball Stadium on Friday.
After consecutive walk-off losses to USF (39-15, 20-6), the Mean Green (27-26) dropped to 14-12 in American Conference play and into fourth place in the league as it trails ECU (14-11) by a 1/2 game.
Starting pitcher Britney Lewinski (L, 14-14) was charged with the hard-luck loss as she held the Bulls to two runs on six hits and two hits with three strikeouts over 6 2/3 innings and 90 pitches. Seven of the previous 10 North Texas games have been decided by two or fewer runs, including three one-run losses.
Riley McNemar shined as she posted a lineout double play from third base in the first inning and tied the game with a leadoff home run in the seventh. The solo blast was her fifth of the season and 13th of her career.
The Mean Green outhit USF 7-6 to mark only its fourth loss of the season when it collects more hits than its opponent.
Leadoff hitter Kaycee Slovak joined McNemar as the only UNT players who finished with multiple hits in the game. Slovak's two hits included her 10th double of the season which tied for third place in UNT freshman history, matching first-year marks from Lindsay Gregory (2017) and Harley Parella (2016).
In total, North Texas stranded seven runners on base including two in the first, fourth and seventh innings while USF only left two on base for the day.
UNT closes the regular season with a Saturday matchup against the Bulls with first pitch scheduled for 11:05 a.m. CT from USF Softball Stadium with streaming coverage on ESPN+.
