Softball Closes Regular Season with Road Loss

TAMPA, Fla. – Mean Green softball dropped its regular season finale 5-3 at South Florida on Saturday afternoon at USF Softball Stadium.
UNT (27-27, 14-13) held two leads over the Bulls (40-15, 21-6) but were unable to put away the home team as USF clinched its share of the American Conference regular season title.
The Mean Green built a two-run lead in the third inning with a pair of unorthodox runs as Eva Daniels scored on an error before Blazye McNemar crossed the plate on a double play. South Florida matched the scoring output in the home half of the frame with two unearned runs to tie at 2-2 before UNT retook the lead at 3-2 on an inning-ending double play.
The Bulls scored three additional runs in the fifth for a 5-3 lead while the Mean Green closed the game with only three of its final seven batters reaching base safely.
North Texas awaits finalized weekend results from around the American Conference to determine its seeding and matchup for the league's championship tournament.
The American Conference Championship begins Wednesday in Greenville, N.C. from Max R. Joyner Family Stadium with streaming coverage on ESPN+.
