HOUSTON — The Mean Green soccer team begins conference play on Sunday at 1 p.m. CT at Holloway Field in Houston.
UNT (3-0-0) is just three days removed from beating Oklahoma, 1-0, at home. And through three matches, the Mean Green defense has only allowed one shot on goal, which keeper Kelsey Brann easily saved.
Rice (4-0-0) and North Texas last faced in the semifinals of the 2019 Conference USA Women's Soccer Championship, which UNT won 2-0.
The Mean Green are 7-3-3 all-time versus Rice and have not lost to the Owls in their last seven matches versus them.
So far, UNT has outscored its opponents 10-0 and is 2-0 on the road. Its defense on the road has traveled well. They've yet to give up a shot on goal in their two road matches.
Sunday's conference opener is big for UNT as they are aiming to win its seventh straight conference championship. However, 2020-21 is a truncated season with just six conference matches during the year and all between C-USA West Division foes.
