UNT Men Ready For Spring Debut In The Prestige

The North Texas men's golf team will begin its spring schedule on the west coast in a packed tournament loaded with talented teams.Â

THE EVENT: The Greg Norman Course at PGA West will play at 7,100 yards, and will be a par-71 course for the tournament. The three-day event begins Monday and will conclude on Wednesday, with tee times going off the first and 10th holes at 8:45 a.m. and 1 p.m., with the leaders going in the afternoon waves. There will be a separate individuals tournament at Coral Mountain Golf Club with tee times beginning at 9:30 a.m. each day.Â

THE FIELD:Â There are a staggering 24 teams participating in the tournament: Cal Poly, Colorado State, Denver, Iowa State, No. 14 Kansas, Long Beach State, Loyola Marymount, No. 25 LSU, North Texas, No. 29 Northwestern, No. 48 Oregon, Oregon State, No. 5Â Pepperdine, Princeton, No. 44 San Diego State, No. 47 San Francisco, Santa Clara, SMU, No. 9 Stanford, TCU, No. 7 Texas Tech, UC Davis, No. 49 UCLA and No. 18 Vanderbilt.

REPRESENTING UNT: Competing for the Mean Green will be Vicente Marzilio, Viktor Forslund, Sean Wilcox, Tucker Allen and Lenny Bergsson. Nikhil Gopal will compete as an individual in the separate tournament.

LAST TIME OUT: North Texas finished seventh at the Little Rock Invitational to close out the fall schedule and was led by senior Sean Wilcox, who finished a career-best T6 in the event.

INTERNATIONAL FLAVOR: The Mean Green feature six international players this year. Lenny Bergsson (Iceland), Viktor Forslund (Sweden), Nikhil Gopal (South Africa), Zak Karkaletsos (Spain), Diego Prone (Argentina) and Vicente Marzilio (Argentina) round out the international players.

STRACKEÂ SAYS:Â "We have worked efficiently on the mental and physical process leading into this tournament" UNT head coach Brad Stracke said. "I'm looking forward to seeing how much we have developed from our last tournament four months ago."

UP NEXT:Â North Texas will have a quick turnaround before their next event, as the Mean Green head to the east coast to play in the Florida Gulf Coast Classic in Placida, Florida, on Feb. 28-March 1.
NEW FACILITY: The Mean Green golf programs are thrilled to break in their brand new Bruzzy's UNT Golf Practice Facility, the new $3 million on-campus facility that features state-of-the-art technology, such as TrackMan, swing catalysts, indoor hitting bays, a short-game area and a PuttView indoor putting green.
