Mean Green Win Sixth Straight

DENTON — The UNT men's basketball team shot a season-high field goal percentage and held Charlotte to a season-low scoring output as they defeated the 49ers, 67-43, at the Super Pit Saturday afternoon and won its league leading sixth-straight game.
The Mean Green shot 59.5 percent from the floor, outrebounded Charlotte by 20, had 16 assists to just eight turnovers and had four players score in double figures, led by Abou Ousmane's 14.
"This showed a lot of maturity from our group," said head coach Grant McCasland. "To execute as well as we did, it was probably our most complete game we've played all year."
North Texas (21-5, 12-3) made its first four shot attempts of the game — three 3-pointers and a dunk by Ousmane — to jump out to an 11-0 lead over the 49ers (14-11, 5-9). The opening run set the tone for the rest of the game as UNT led for the entire game and by double digits for the final 26 and a half minutes of the game. It's largest lead on the day was as big as 25 points.
Over the course of the entire game, the Mean Green made nine of their 17 3-point attempts (52.9 percent), four of which were made by Tylor Perry in the first half who didn't miss a 3-pointer in the first 20 minutes of the game.
Perry finished with 12 points.
Junior Rubin Jones had his best game of the year. The Houston native who missed a good chunk of the summer and the first few games of the year recovering from offseason surgery, dished out five assists and scored 12 points.
Jones was the only North Texas player who went to the free throw line Saturday and was a perfect 8-of-8 at the charity stripe.
Newcomer Tyree Eady also had one of his best performances of the year. He scored 10 points in the first half and knocked down a pair of 3-pointers.
Saturday's win came just a couple days after UNT beat UAB, 82-78, in double overtime and saw five players play over 40 minutes of action.
"Not really," Eady said after being asked if he had tired legs. "We know there are bigger and more important things we want to accomplish so we're all doing the right things off the court to make sure we are best prepared for the next game."
North Texas' next three games are on the road as they hit the final stretch of the regular season. They'll start the three-game road trip with a Thursday night battle at Louisiana Tech, which is scheduled to tip at 6 p.m. CT from Ruston, Louisiana. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+ and the Mean Green Sports Network, presented by Learfield.
