PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. - The UNT men's golf team wrapped up play at The Hayt on Sunday at Sawgrass Country Club and moved up two spots on the leaderboard to T10th after carding a 3-over 291 in the final round - one of the better final-round scores in the field.
Junior Vicente Marzilio led the way for the Mean Green with a final-round 68 after carding seven birdies in the final round, and he finished the tournament tied for 14th at 1-under par. Junior Tucker Allen tied for 33rd at 5-over par after shooting a final-round 72.
"We had a great start the first day, leading a strong field after 14-16 holes," UNT head coach Brad Stracke said. "Our competitive mindset was working effectively on a demanding golf course, but unfortunately we couldn't sustain our play and gave up some shots the last 20 holes. The guys showed a lot of heart playing well the final round. Vicente had a fantastic stretch of shooting 6-under on his last 11 holes and tied for 14th. I believe this group gained a lot of confidence and learned a lot."
The Mean Green will face a quick turnaround as they'll stay in Florida for the Gators Invitational on Saturday and Sunday in Gainesville.
