Men's Golf Drops Heartbreaker in Match Play Semifinal

TEXARKANA, Ark. - The UNT men's golf team saw its run in the Conference USA Championship come to an end on Thursday with a 3-2 loss to Charlotte in the match play semifinals.
Junior Tucker Allen won his match 5&3 in a dominant effort, and junior Cody Winkler won his match on the 19th hole in the first hole of a playoff, while the Mean Green took two narrow losses by Vicente Marzilio and Diego Prone, whose matches both went all the way to the 18th hole before one-hole losses.
"I'm proud of the way this team has worked and improved this spring," UNT head coach Brad Stracke said. "It's tough to lose anything, but match play really stings. We have five out of the top six players back, and the future is very bright."
In the stroke play portion of the tournament that began Monday and concluded Wednesday, Marzilio finished in third place at 1-over, while Allen finished tied for fourth at 2-over after as both were named to the All-Tournament team.
