RUSTON, La. – UNT softball opens its postseason schedule at the Conference USA Championship on Wednesday at 5 p.m. on ESPN+ at Dr. Billy Bundrick Field.
North Texas (32-21, 16-8) enters as the No. 3 seed and will play the winner of the first round, single-elimination game between Middle Tennessee (34-17, 13-10) and hosts Louisiana Tech (32-23, 13-11).
The Mean Green own a 25-19 record over MTSU including a 2-1 series victory last weekend in Denton. UNT holds a 2-1 edge against the Blue Raiders in postseason play, last meeting on May 10, 2019, in which North Texas won 4-2.
UNT holds a 19-18 advantage versus LA Tech after winning the series in Ruston on March 10-12. The programs met as the top two seeds in last season's tournament and the Mean Green won 11-1 in five innings at Lovelace Stadium.
Last season, North Texas won its first-ever conference tournament and third consecutive C-USA crown after it captured regular season titles in 2019 and 2021. Since 2019, head coach Rodney DeLong has led UNT to a 5-4 mark at the C-USA Championship.
Outfielder Molly Rainey was named MVP of the 2022 C-USA Championship and was joined on the all-conference tournament team by outfielder Lexi Cobb and pitcher Ashley Peters. The group set a new program record for most UNT players to earn the distinction, besting a two- player group from the 2006 Sun Belt Conference Championship.
