Allen Leads Mean Green To Third-Place Showing

HARRIS, Mich. - Senior Tucker Allen shot a final-round 73 on Monday to tie for seventh at 7-under par and lead the UNT men's golf team to a third-place showing at the season-opening Island Resort Intercollegiate at Sage Run Golf Club.
The Mean Green shot a final-round, 3-under 285 to finish at 16-under par for the tournament with a 287-276-285-848 - which is tied for the 10th best 54-hole score since at least the 1993-94 season. The second-round 276 tied for the ninth-best round since then.
"I'm excited to get the season started. It was a complete team effort with several different guys contributing," said head coach Luke Calcatera. "Tucker Allen led the team and made a big impact for us to start the season strong."
Allen finished the event with a 70-66-73 for a 209, while fellow senior Cody Winkler finished just two shots behind Allen with a 73-68-70 in a tie for 11th place. Senior Diego Prone rounded out the Mean Green's top-30 showings with a T27 finish at 71-73-71-215.
The Mean Green now will have a quick turnaround as they head to the Streamsong Intercollegiate in Lakeland, Florida, beginning on Sept. 11 and running through Sept. 13.
