
Softball Opens AAC Play Friday

DENTON, Texas – UNT softball hosts East Carolina for a three-game American Athletic Conference series beginning on Friday at 6 p.m. from Lovelace Stadium. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.
The Mean Green (9-11) finished its pre-conference schedule with a 12-0 loss in five innings at No. 17 Texas A&M on Wednesday. Cierra Simon recorded her first multi-hit game of the season while seniors Lexi Cobb and Kailey Gamble each tallied one double.
Gamble enters the weekend with 152 consecutive starts and needs three to match the third-longest streak in program history. She currently ranks top 10 in UNT history for nine career statistical categories including home runs, RBI, walks and defensive putouts.
Friday will mark the first meeting against the Pirates (21-2) in program history. ECU enters on a five-game winning streak after its midweek doubleheader against No. 6 Duke was postponed on Wednesday.
UNT debuted at No. 83 in the first edition of the NCAA RPI rankings which was released on Monday. After Wednesday's midweek, the Mean Green ranks 31st in the nation for strength of schedule after it played four of its last five games against top 75 competition.
As a conference, The American ranks first in the nation in strength of schedule. East Carolina ranks No. 51 in RPI with the lowest ranked strength of schedule (240) in the league.
