UNT heads to Tulsa for Pair of AAC Matches to Close Regular Season

Mean Green take on Tulsa, Temple in final regular season weekend
TULSA, Okla. – The UNT tennis team is set to close out the 2024 regular season this weekend with a pair of matchups against Tulsa and Temple in Tulsa, Okla. at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
The Mean Green take on Tulsa Friday at 5:30 PM and Temple Saturday at 2:00 PM as all three programs play each other to jockey for positioning in the ITA rankings.
Currently sitting at 10-11 overall, UNT will look to close the regular season above .500 in dual matches for the first time since the 2019 season.
In singles play this season, North Texas has three different players with nine wins apiece. Lou Chalard is 9-6 with the five of her wins coming at line four, Carolina Laydner is 9-3 and also has five wins at line four and Stadfany Nformi sits at 9-7 with seven victories at line two.
UNT has mixed the lineup all season with five different players playing at three different lines this season. Similarly in doubles, the Mean Green have had 12 different doubles combinations in 21 total matches on the year.
Tulsa heads into the weekend at 9-11 overall and are coming off a strong road win over No. 63 Wichita State Monday. The Golden Hurricane had lost four straight matches heading into the contest with the Shockers but are 7-4 in home contests this season.
Maria Berlanga leads the way for TU with a 12-6 record in dual action playing exclusively at line one on the year.
Temple, meanwhile, sits at 8-5 overall coming off a 7-0 sweep of Binghamton last Saturday. Saturday's match will be the first for the Owls against an AAC opponent this season.
The Owls have been strong in doubles play this season, taking the doubles point eight times in 13 matches. Evie Wei and Jessie Zheng lead the way with a 7-1 record in doubles matches this season.
The final regular season weekend will set the stage for UNT's seed in the AAC Tournament next week. Seeding will be determined by the final ITA regular season rankings with seeds 11-14 starting Wednesday, April 17.
