Men's Golf Wins North Texas Intercollegiate

CARROLLTON - The UNT men's golf team won the team championship at the North Texas Intercollegiate on Tuesday at Maridoe Golf Club in its final tuneup before its first American Athletic Conference Championship, which is set to begin Friday in Bellaire, Florida, at Pelican Golf Club.

UNT shot a 12-over 300 to finish the event at 29-over par and hold off a late charge from UIW, which ended up finishing five shots back at 34-over par.

The Mean Green, who are hosted the tournament, won their first event since March 2018, when they won the Spring Break Challenge at Las Colinas Country Club near the end of the 2017-18 season, and it's the first victory at UNT for first-year head coach Luke Calcatera.

Senior Harry Lord tied for the individual title but went on to lose in a marathon eight-hole, sudden-death playoff. Lord shot an opening-round 78 before a tournament-best 69 in the second round and a final-round 71.

"I'm happy to get the team win this week," Calcatera said. "It was a great effort that every player contributed to. Winning is contagious and we're excited to take this momentum into the American Conference Championship next week. We have a great group of guys that are capable of great things. I'm looking forward to a quick turnaround this week."

Senior Tucker Allen led the team with a T4 finish at 4-over par, while fellow senior Cody Winkler finished strong with a final-round 2-under 70 to finish T8 at 9-over. Sophomore Simon Roessler finished tied for 13th to round out the team's top-15 finishers.

Lord, Allen, Alvaro Roldos and Dawson Meek all earned all-tournament honors for finishing in the top five.
