The Mean Green remain tied for second place in The American
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – UNT softball recorded a 9-1 win in five innings over Memphis at Tiger Softball Complex on Sunday to complete an American Athletic Conference series sweep.
North Texas (28-19, 15-6) secured its sixth league series victory on Saturday and have won seven of its past nine games, including its conference series win over first place Florida Atlantic on April 14. The Mean Green finished its series against the Tigers (5-37, 1-20) with a +25 scoring margin after allowing only one run over three games.
The Mean Green are tied for second place in The American with Charlotte (29-16, 15-6) with both teams one game behind FAU.
McKenzie Wagoner (W, 12-5) collected her third win of the week after she spun three scoreless innings. She allowed only one hit and zero walks with three strikeouts.
Four UNT players tallied multi-hit games on Sunday including Morgan Medford, Cierra Simon, Kailey Gamble and Kat Ibarra. Gamble registered career hit No. 150 with a single in the fourth inning.
Lexi Cobb hit her first home run of the season with a three-run shot in the third inning. The round-tripper marked the 100th career run scored for Cobb.
One inning later, Mikayla Smith struck for a solo home run to left field for her team-leading ninth of the season. Over her four-year career, Smith has 24 home runs which is one shy of breaking into the top 10 in program history.
Mackenzie Childers pitched the fifth inning, allowing zero runs on zero hits and one walk with two strikeouts. This season, Childers has collected 99 strikeouts over 112 and 1/3 innings for a clip of 8.50 strikeouts per seven innings, currently the fourth-highest single season mark in program history.

The Mean Green visit No. 6 Oklahoma State at Cowgirl Stadium for its final non-conference midweek contest on Wednesday at 6 p.m. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.
