Ten UNT players to be honored at Senior Night
DENTON, Texas – UNT softball welcomes Wichita State to Lovelace Stadium for its final home series of the season beginning with a doubleheader on Friday at 4 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Due to inclement weather conditions, game three is set for Saturday with a TBA first pitch time. The full series can be streamed on ESPN+.
The Mean Green will honor 10 players in a postgame senior ceremony after game two of the doubleheader on Friday night. Honorees include outfielder Lexi Cobb, infielder Morgan Medford, infielder Mikayla Smith, outfielder Katy Truitt, outfielder Molly Rainey, catcher Kalei Christensen, infielder Saleen Donohoe, infielder Kailey Gamble, right-handed pitcher McKenzie Wagoner and infielder Kat Ibarra.
North Texas (28-19, 15-6) swept its American Athletic Conference series at Memphis on Sunday and are tied with Charlotte for second place in the league. Over six games last week, the Mean Green outscored its opponents 52-15 with three of its four highest single-game run totals of the season.
Wichita State (21-19, 12-9) was voted to finish first in The American preseason coaches' poll, garnering eight of 10 first-place votes. The Shockers clinched its home series over UAB on Sunday but have lost three of its past four conference series.
UNT shortstop Cierra Simon won AAC Player of the Week honors on Monday while McKenzie Wagoner was named to the five-player Honor Roll. Simon led the team with eight hits, 11 RBI and 16 total bases and added five runs scored and two stolen bases.
Wagoner collected three wins in the circle including a seven-inning, complete-game shutout of the Tigers on Friday. She leads the UNT bullpen with a 12-5 record and 2.43 earned run average over 112.1 innings pitched.
