DENTON, Texas – UNT softball dropped the third game of its American Athletic Conference series 6-0 versus Wichita State on Saturday at Lovelace Stadium.
"The score was worse than it looked," head coach Rodney DeLong said. "In the third inning, they hit the home run and kind of buried us there. Overall [Wagoner] threw well, we played good defense all weekend and won the series."
The Mean Green (30-20, 17-7) finished with a 15-9 record at Lovelace Stadium this season, tied for the fourth-most home wins in program history. Wichita State (22-21, 13-11) starting pitcher Chloe Barber (W, 7-5) held North Texas hitless through 4 2/3 innings.
Tatum Sparks and Lexi Cobb each tallied two-out base hits in the fifth inning to end Barber's no-hit effort.
Mackenzie Childers (L, 9-7) struck out the side in the first inning, including strikeout No. 100 of her season. She ranks first in program history with a career rate of 8.55 strikeouts per seven innings.
In the third inning, Wichita State scored on a wild pitch and three-run home run from Taylor Sedlacek to end Childers' afternoon. She allowed four runs on one hit and three walks with six strikeouts.
Senior McKenzie Wagoner spun the final four innings and collected three strikeouts in her final home game in Denton.
