
Softball Suffers Friday Shutout

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – UNT softball dropped game one of its American Athletic Conference series 7-0 at UAB on Friday night at Mary Bowers Field.
The Mean Green (21-14, 10-2) suffered its second road shutout in AAC play, sixth overall of the season. UNT collected one hit in each of the initial five innings against the Blazers (14-21, 5-7) and stranded six runners, including three in scoring position.
Relievers McKenzie Wagoner and Kayleigh Smith held the UAB lineup to three total baserunners with two hits and one walk in 4 2/3 scoreless innings. Mackenzie Childers (L, 9-5) was tabbed for the start and completed 1 1/3 innings with two strikeouts. She allowed seven earned runs on four hits and three walks.
Kailey Gamble and Molly Rainey each collected doubles on Friday with each owing a spot on the top-10 career leaderboard. Additionally, Gamble moved into sixth place with 291 career total bases, passing Kelli Schkade (2015-17) at 290.
