DENTON, Texas — The UNT basketball teams are taking over the Denton Square for the second annual Nightmare on Elm Street Basketball Tip-Off, set for Wednesday, Oct. 22, as part of the City of Denton's "Thirty One Days of Halloween" festivities.
Fans will get an up-close look at the 2025-26 Mean Green teams during this one-of-a-kind outdoor showcase on Elm Street, between Hickory Street and Oak Street. The event is free and open to the public. More event details, including the start time, will be announced soon.
"Connecting with the Denton community will always be a top priority for us," UNT Vice President and Director of Athletics Jared Mosley said. "We're thrilled to bring both of our basketball programs right to the heart of downtown Denton once again this fall. Partnering with the city for such a unique event is a great opportunity to grow our local relationships and introduce UNT basketball to even more fans."
Joining the showcase again this year are TWU's NCAA Division II team and youth participants from Denton ISD, creating a city-wide celebration of the upcoming basketball season.
The Mean Green men's basketball team is entering its first season under head coach Daniyal Robinson, who arrived in Denton after three successful seasons at Cleveland State. Robinson has brought an influx of transfers into the program from his Vikings team that won 23 games last season, along with two NJCAA All-Americans and a pair of Power Four guards.
The UNT women's basketball team looks to build upon the two winningest seasons in program history in Jason Burton's third season at the helm. The Mean Green won 25 games last season and earned a WNIT berth, marking consecutive postseason appearances for just the second time in program history.
Season tickets for both the men's and women's basketball teams are on sale now.
