DENTON, Texas – The UNT men's golf team begins its second competition of the spring Monday at the Border Olympics in Laredo, Texas. Competing at Laredo Country Club's par-72, 7,257-yard layout, the 13-team field is set for 36 holes of action Monday before a closing 18 on Tuesday.
The Mean Green are coming off a strong showing at the Compadres Collegiate earlier this month, registering their best finish of the 2025-26 season in second place. As a team, UNT improved its score each round and landed just five shots behind champion UTRGV. Sophomore Alex Huang was UNT's top performer of the week with an even-par, third-place finish. It was Huang's fourth career top-10, and he now returns to the Mean Green lineup for the sixth time this season.
Joining Huang in Laredo will be Blake Keen, Mitchell Maier, Rayhan Latief, Noah Blaickner and Kalle Svederman, who is playing as an individual.
Maier and Blaickner also contributed to the successful week in Mexico, both finishing tied for 12th at 7-over. The finish marked Blaickner's highest of the season, while Maier now ranks second on the team in stroke average at 72.27.
The playing field this week includes Illinois State, Houston Christian, UTRGV, Louisiana, New Mexico State, Tarleton State, Troy, Wichita State, Sam Houston, Lamar, Wright State and 50th-ranked Houston. The tournament is scheduled to begin Monday at 8:00 a.m. with a shotgun start and can be followed live here.
