UNT blanks East Texas A&M as Anderson match career-best strikeout mark
DENTON – Anneca Anderson pitched her first complete-game shutout of the season as UNT recorded a 4-0 win over East Texas A&M at Lovelace Stadium on Wednesday night.
The Mean Green (3-8) recorded its first shutout of the season in the win over the Lions (5-6), the program's first shutout since May 9, 2025, when Anderson spun a seven-inning gem against Florida Atlantic in the American Conference Championship semifinals which resulted in a 1-0 victory and subsequent finals appearance.
Anderson, who matched her career high of eight strikeouts on Wednesday, described the emotions of pitching the team's first home game of the season.
"Today, I was a little nervous because [it was our] first game [at home] and there were a bunch of people in the stands," Anderson explained. "I [told myself], 'Okay, calm down,' but then I started having fun and really vibing off from my team."
The offensive charge was led by junior catcher Elizabeth Moffitt as she finished 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBI, her sixth game with three-plus RBI in her career. In total, seven of the nine starters tallied a hit as Moffitt was joined by fellow junior Madison Conley with two hits apiece.
"We're putting it together," head coach Cody White said. "We still have some things that we've got to solidify, but we're putting the bricks down to build the house, and it's going to take a little bit of time, but we're doing it, and we saw progress today."
North Texas will travel to the Lion Classic for a five-team tournament in Commerce, Texas, beginning on Friday at 12:30 p.m. versus St. Thomas (MN) before a rematch with East Texas A&M at 5:30 p.m. on ESPN+.
