Latief Goes Low as Men’s Golf Concludes Play at Louisiana Classics

LAFAYETTE, La. – Freshman Rayhan Latief completed the best tournament of his young career as the UNT men's golf team wrapped up a successful week at the Louisiana Classics.

Competing in just his fifth collegiate tournament, Latief fired a third-round 68 to jump 17 spots on the leaderboard and finish in a tie for eighth at 6-under. It marked the best 18-hole and 54-hole scores of his career, and he has now finished top 20 in three consecutive tournaments. Latief also led the team with 13 birdies and was one of five players in the field to sink multiple eagles.

That performance was pivotal in UNT's 10-under 854, which matched its second best 54-hole score so far this season. Sophomore Alex Huang provided a consistent presence all week long as he shot par-or-better in every round before ultimately tying for 19th. He has finished top 20 in five of seven starts on the year.

Blake Keen and Mitchell Maier finished 1-under and even-par, respectively, giving North Texas four par-or-better players for the first time this season. Meanwhile, Noah Blaickner will look to rebound next time out after a 12-over showing that netted him 88th place.

No. 29 Texas A&M ran away with the team title at 24-under, seven strokes ahead of second-place Little Rock. In eighth place, North Texas finished higher than three teams above it in Scoreboard's latest rankings.

UNT quickly turns its attention to the loaded All-American Collegiate, which takes place on March 16-17 at the Golf Club of Houston.
