DENTON, Texas – The UNT men's golf team continues its spring season this week at the All-American Intercollegiate in Humble, Texas. Hosted at the Golf Club of Houston, the tournament begins with 36 holes of play Monday before a closing 18 the following morning.
North Texas has been playing well as of late, finishing as runner-up in back-to-back tournaments before a 10-under performance last week at the Louisiana Classics. That was tied for its best 54-hole score vs. par this season and marked its second consecutive outing shooting par-or-better as a team.
Freshman Rayhan Latief was the top Mean Green performer in that tournament after shooting 6-under to finish in a tie for eighth, both of which were the best of his career. His week featured multiple scores in the 60's, highlighted by a career-low 68 in the final round, and was one of five players in the field to sink multiple eagles.
Latief will be joined in the UNT lineup by Alex Huang, Blake Keen, Mitchell Maier and Joe Stover. They will battle a competitive 16-team field that includes fourth-ranked Arkansas, Houston, Nebraska, Eastern Michigan, Abilene Christian, Lamar, Sam Houston, UT Arlington, Tarleton State, UTRGV, Texas State, ULM, Houston Christian, Odessa and American Conference foe Rice.
The No. 1 starter in every tournament so far this season, Huang leads the team with a 71.76 stroke average and a pair of top-10 finishes. He was a consistent presence last week at the Louisiana Classics with par-or-better scores in all three rounds, giving him his fifth top 20 in seven starts on the year.
The team portion of the All-American Intercollegiate will take place at the Tournament Course, while Noah Blaickner, Rafael Estrada and all other individual competitors are set to compete on the Member Course. Play is scheduled to begin Monday at 8:00 a.m. CT and can be followed live here.
